Camping is one of those hobbies where once you get into it, it becomes really hard not to do it.
Now whether you are an experienced camper or a newbie there are some guidelines you need to follow so that you can enjoy your camping risk free and make the best out of it.
Before you embark on a camping trip, take time to plan and prepare with the proper equipment, maps, knowledge and a permit if required.
Answering the question of What Are The 10 Essentials For Camping that you should always carry with you on a trip, which are:
- Sun Protection.
- First Aid Supplies.
- Fire Starting Kit.
- Repair Kit.
- Emergency Blanket.
This is your first essential which includes your maps and a compass, as you should try to get a map of every location you go to.
Along with that you should try to get pieces of books and articles that talk about the trail and different turns and features that maybe good to know for your trip.
It is also very important not to just have a map and a compass but also know how to use it.
Before you go out make sure you took a course or watched some videos on how to use your map and compass.
This includes sun screen, sun glasses and a hat, and this is for all types of weather.
before you leave to the trail it’s great to get some lotion sitting in your car.
But once you are on the road you are going to get sweaty, you might go on a creek or a river and the sunscreen might come off.
It’s great to have a mini lotion bottle on your back.
This is going to mean that it will keep you warm, and you will also have to think of materials since regular clothes becomes useless and can negatively impact you when in contact with water.
So if you are in wet conditions or potential precipitation, you should start thinking of ways to protect your insulation as well.
Nature is eccentric. Always try to be set up for sudden changes in climate conditions.
Lighting is vital in the outside where no traditional light sources can be found.
So i always bring my headlamp with me, and if i am spending the night i’ll usually bring some sort of camp light to light up the area that i am sleeping in.
A tip with your headlamp, when you are packing it to avoid it turning on in your backpack by itself you can try and take one battery and flip its position so that you are sure it wont turn up by default.
First Aid Supplies
With your first aid kit you want to make sure everything inside of it can be used and you know how to use, because otherwise you’re just carrying extra weight that is not useful to you.
So in my first aid kit i like to keep some items that might be a little heavier or unnecessary for some people.
I usual have a bottle of ibuprofen, a pack of moleskin for blisters, tweezers for splinters, safety pen are also useful if you need to wrap something up and hold it together.
As well as a book which is actually a field guide manual to pretty much any medical emergency that can happen.
And lastly, i keep my gauze, bandages and wipes all in a long water sealed bag.
So before you leave for the trail you hopefully know where most of the water sources are and where you can safely refill your water bottle.
And if there is not any water source, make sure to pack enough water for your trip.
And if there is a water source, you can bring water purification tablets or a life straw, which is not as efficient as you can not have as much water on you.
But i have had a time where i had to use it when i was extremely thirsty, and i did not want to wait for the thirty minutes that it takes for the water tablets to activate.
The basic rule of nutrition is that, when you are going out you wanna pack extra food to last you one day longer than your original plan.
So a camping classic is prepacked cliff bars as they are great trail snack and a breakfast.
Generally you do not want to steer too far from your regular diet, you’re out in the wild and you do not want to feel sick.
Fire Starting Kit
Some people think that matches are all you need in your fire starting kit but the is they do not stay lit long enough for you to light anything else.
In that case we need to bring paper or something that is going to stay with the flame so that we can drive things off and create the warmth that we need.
Acquaint yourself with the fire use regulations of your local place before heading out.
This might include a Swiss army knife, if you are carrying a firm arrest or something like that it may be important to carry something that is going to repair your sleeping for the night.
Or it can be something as simple as duck tape, duck tape is also good if your pack has a hole in it, or something has a leak or something you need to seal it is very useful.
Emergency blanket can be used for so many things, it is a great source of heat, can be used to shelter above you, it can be used to keep an injured person warm or to line the floor of your tent.
I encourage you to be creative with this important tool.
